ATTI and BII Co-Host Event on Financing Decarbonisation in the Global Apparel and Textile Industry
On Wednesday 24th June, ATTI joined forces with British International Investment to co-host an event on Financing Decarbonisation in the Global Apparel and Textile Industry, as part of London Climate Action Week.
The two panels brought together diverse stakeholders, each working on different aspects of the transition challenge. The conversations spanned a range of topics, from on-the-ground manufacturing realities to the financing mechanisms needed to drive change at scale. The quality of speakers, the enthusiasm and diversity of perspectives in the room made for an outstanding morning, with frank and energising dialogue throughout.
Panel One: Decarbonisation Pathways - From Diagnosis to Collective Action
The first panel grounded the conversation manufacturing realities, examining challenges and opportunities faced by manufacturers in their efforts to decarbonise, and also considered the actual and potnetial impacts of individual and collective brand interventions, as well as wider collective pursuits that support and strengthen both new and established pathways towards industry transformation.
To explore these themes, ATTI and BII were delighted to welcome distinguished speakers Dr Ayyazuddin (Head of Decarbonisation Committee, PRGMEA, and Founder of CO2 Talks), Mark Newbold (Sustainability Programme Lead, Primark), Vidiya Khan (Vice President, BGMEA), Fernando de Bunes (Chief Sustainability Officer, Inditex), and Olivia Windham Stewart, Initiative Director, ATTI.
Panel Two: Financing the Transition in Textile and Apparel Supply Chains: From Pathways to Capital Deployment
The second panel turned to the complex financing challenges involved in supporting the transition at scale. For this panel, ATTI and BII were honoured to invite contributions from key industry experts, Kristina Elinder Liljas (Senior Director for Sustainable Finance and Engagement, Apparel Impact Institute), Claire Hierons (Head of Finance & Capital Markets Programme, Laudes Foundation), Anupam Shahi (Global Head of Sustainable Trade Product, HSBC), Asad Mahmood (CEO, SIMA), and Dania Siddiqui (Investment Director, BII).
MOU Signing: ATTI Pakistan Chapter
The event concluded with a landmark moment: the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and ATTI, formally establishing the ATTI Pakistan Chapter.
